Since a PhD in archaeology at Cambridge University in 1979, have been a freelance writer, editor and translator of archaeological books, as well as researcher, primarily on prehistoric art (especially of the Ice Age) and on Easter Island. I also lecture every year on on many tours to prehistoric rock art sites around the world. In 2003 I led the team which, at my instigation, sought and discovered the only known Ice Age cave art in Britain, at Creswell Crags.
