Sofia Voutsaki

Sofia Voutsaki is Professor of Greek Archaeology in the University of Groningen, The Netherlands. She has written her PhD on Mycenaean mortuary practices in Cambridge under the supervision of Prof Lord Renfrew, and has worked in the Faculty of Classics in Cambridge and in Newnham College, Cambridge. She is at the moment directing a large international project  on social change and cultural interaction in the Middle Bronze Age Greek mainland (for which she has received a Grant for Innovative Research by the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research -NWO), is preparing the publication of the Argos Tumuli Project (with Research Grants by the Institute of Aegean Prehistory) and is excavating the Northern Cemetery in the newly discovered Mycenaean centre in Ayios Vasilios, Sparta (financed by the University of Groningen and the Ammodo Foundation). Her interests are Aegean prehistory, archaeological theory, mortuary studies, the integration of scientific techniques and tra
