Barbara Helwing

Barbara Helwing holds a PhD in Prehistoric Archaeology from Heidelberg University in Germany and has qualified as a professor in Near Eastern Archaeology at the University of Tuebingen, where she is also a private lecturer in addition to her regular position as head of the Tehran Branch of the German Archaeological Institute. Her research interests lie in the late prehistoric periods of Western Asia, with attention to the emergence of early complex societies, human – environment relations and ressource management, and archaeometallurgy, as reflected in her publication record. In addition, she has a conducted extensive field work in Greece, Turkey, Iran, Sri Lanka and, most recently, Azerbaijan.
