Hermann Parzinger
Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Hermann Parzinger, born 12 March 1959 in Munich
• Prehistory and Early History, Roman Provincial Archaeology and Medieval History Studies at Munich, Saarbrücken and Ljubljana universities
• Doctoral Degree 1985 in Munich, then Assistant Professor
• In 1990 appointment as Second Director of the German Archaeological Institute’s (DAI) Roman-German Commission in Frankfurt/Main following post-doc qualification in Munich
• Since 1995 Founding Director of the DAI Eurasia Department in Berlin and since 1996 Honorary Professor for Prehistoric Archaeology at Free University Berlin (FU)
• Between 2003 and 2008 DAI President
• Since March 2008 President of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation (SPK)
• Member of various academies in Russia, China, Spain, Romania and Germany and in 1998 the first archaeologist to be awarded the Leibniz Prize of the German Research Foundation (DFG)
• In 2009 awarded the Order of Friendship (the highest Russian state decoration bestowed on foreign citizens) for many years of research in Russia
• In 2011 admitted to the Order Pour le Mérite for the Arts and Sciences
• In 2012 awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany by Federal President Joachim Gauck
